final animation....

I have developed the pace of the words (boom needs to be a lot quicker than fold for example) and I have also experimented with how they come into the screen.

I am really pleased with my results as I never thought I would be able to create an animation! However, I am unsure why I have chosen the green colour?! I think i may do a few different versions of the animation using different colours to see the different results. Although I think it is hard to find a colour which works for all 3 words....boom should be red and orange shades as its an explosion; disburse is more cool and fold is greys.

video development

video development for my 10 second animation....

i am pleased with the work i have done so far, however, i believe i need to work on linking the 3 words together as it is a bit broken.

using two fo my words in after effects

This clip shows boom and disburse together.
However, I need to...
1.) add final word (fold)
2.) work on pace
3.) think about colour
4.) think about movement
5.) work on linking the words together

my fav advert of the moment...

I know this is just a 'film' however, there must be digital work in it - there is, unfortunately, no slide like that in any city!

A different type of animation. I really like the idea of the zooming in and the style of work.
I also think the video fits well with the music.

initial fold development in after effects

This is my first and very basic experiment with the word fold. I have decided how I want the word to look it is just trying to achieve it!

At the moment I am just trying to experiment with different styles and techniques of getting your work to move.

Disburse development....

3 ideas for disburse developed into storyboards.

1st idea: the word breaks down, letter by letter. Each letter falls down the frame and slowly breaks up.

2nd idea: the letters break away from main text and then slowly the letters fall apart.

3rd idea: the word is all joined up using one continuous line, however that is slowly broken down, letter by letter, so that there are lots of lines and seperate letters in the frame.

Boom development...

3 ideas for BOOM developed into storyboards.

First idea: the oo's expand and explode over the entire screen making it go black.
Second idea: Start with an empty frame and then suddenly the words burst onto the screen from the bottom in an explosion. This would be done using a single line.
Third idea: The boom bursting onto the screen from bottom left, the letters would continously get larger and fill up the frame.

Fold development

Below are 3 ideas I have developed.  I have broken each idea down into frames
seperate frames to see how the animation would work.

This series has been developed from my stop motion photographs of the word Fold. I like this idea and think the step by step folding illustrates the word perfectly.
This idea was all about bending a piece of paper with the word fold on it. Therefore, just one single fold would be created. However, 8 frames was not enough space for me to reach the point where the word fold was actually folded in half.
My final idea is to fold each letter vertically. Slowly making the word disappear.

honda advert

Not sure how this animation is created however I am always loved it and found it really clever. Plus the music is very catchy and sticks in peoples heads.

I will aspire to this (even though I know I will not reach it!)

example of after effects and final cut pro

I chose this one as I am drawn to the background of the piece. Most of the animation I have seen has a solid background. Whereas I really like this contrast and think it is really effective.

I also put this video up as I would like to learn how to do something like this. I think it would work well for a digital portfolio I could send off in my cover letters etc.

how to get a woman/man

I selected this animation to put on my blog as I am interested in the way the screen seems to move, rather than the words. Looks like the 'camera' shoots across the piece of paper the writing is on.
I am unsure how to achieve this, however I intend to find out!

initial ideas for words

Below are my initial ideas for words. There are only 8 designs for each word at the moment, however I will update this as I go along. I realise I do not want to be so linear and should experiment and investigate my words fully.

Fold:
Boom:
Disburse: (or disperse (i am unsure which it is meant to be?!))

my first experimentation with after effects...

This is my first go with after effects....
I am just starting to learn about moving an image (in this case a purple box) around the piece and the effects you can do to it.

below is a refined version of the piece (the purple box ends back in order and still)

my second experimentation with stop motion...

Following on from the previous blog I have developed my fold idea and I am quite pleased with the final piece as I have never done anything like this before. However, I want to carry on developing this more. (I now have the video bug!!)

my first experimentation with stop motion...

Following on from the work I did yesterday we were asked to narrate the story of your word through a storyboard. However, I have taken it a step further and made it into a stop motion film.  The video above shows my experimentation with the word 'fold'.

Here is my first experimentation with stop motion. I used final cut to create this very short sequence and am quite pleased with it as I have never attempted anything like this, or used this software before.

first workshop results - Emma

First workshop on the new brief and we experimented with how a word is read and understood by the way it is formed and positioned.
Below are my first attempts at this.....

The word I had to describe and put across was 'disburse'.

For my first go I am relatively pleased with the ideas, however I think I need to investigate the word more and understand the true meaning of it. I say this because once I had research around the word 'disburse' more I came up with a different idea and perspective. (The results can be seen in the post further down called (first workshop results - disburse)

first workshop results - boom

We were asked to select a word from each column (there were 3 columns). We then had to write these words down showing/describing them through the way we place and arrange them on the page.

Below are my examples for the word 'boom'.

first workshop results - fold

Here are my initial designs for the word 'fold'.

Do not think I have solved how best to show this word yet. Need to do more experimentation.

Welcome!

This is my new blog where I intend to investigate.....

"WHAT IS DESIGN FOR DIGITAL MEDIA?"

I aim to explore a broad range of contemporary design practices which will hopefully develop my own opinions and understanding of the subject.

So here we go.....
